Ladies 1's Vs East Grinstead 3's

Crawley Ladies received a late blow ahead of their top of the league clash with East Grinstead when news filtered through that their captain, Becky Whitelock, was in bed with flu. However, they did not let this dampen their spirits and they started the game well despite the chilly conditions and had a few early chances. They were in fact the first to break the deadlock mid way through the first half with a great attacking move which started down the right. The ball was then played to Chloe Silver at left midfield left who played a superb ball into the D and Lorna Maskell made no mistake in slotting the ball past the East Grinstead goalkeeper. Crawley maintained the lead until half term through some valiant defending, especially from player of the match, Jane Lomas, and key clearance from Chris Hunt in goal.

East Grinstead started the second half determined to make one of their chances count and it wasn't long before they found what they were looking for and we're back on level terms. Most of the second half was a tightly fought contest with both sides working hard to trying the find another goal. A slight lack of concentration in the Crawley defence allowed East Grinstead to play a ball across the circle to one of their forwards on the far post who found the back of the goal to put EG in the lead. Crawley did not panic and kept their composure and a few minutes later, it was Maskell who found herself with the ball in the circle and although her first shot hit the post, she followed up the rebound and bundled the ball over the line to equalise.

Both teams had chances to win it but a draw was probably a fair result and means that the title race looks set to go down to the wire. Crawley are away to Chichester next weekend.
