Crawley ladies 1s lost to Lewes ladies 2 away on Saturday and slipped to the bottom of the table in the Sussex premier division. The game started well with strong play down both sides of the pitch. Gemma Kingston and Fran Pittingale worked well down the left to create goal scoring opportunities, as did Fiona Bettesworth and Lorna Maskell but Crawley did not managed to capitalise on them. Crawley defended well with both Jane Lomas and Fran Cornwall saving goals from the posts from short corners awarded against them. At half time, the score was 0-0 but soon after play started Lewes scored their first goal from open play. After a plethora of short corners which were well defended, with captain Becky Whitelock being quick off the line to intercept a number before the shot could be taken, Lewes finally managed to flick a second goal past keeper, Chris Hunt, to finish 0-2.
Next week crawley face Brighton at home needing to get some points from this game.
