Ladies 1st Team - first win of the season

For the 2021 season, Crawley started with 50% of the ladies squad new to the club or promoted from the ladies 2nds.
Although starting the season with three defeats week in week out the performances have improved in both training and matches.
For this game we were able to see the return of Fran Cornwall available playing her first game in over 2 seasons coordinating the defence so effectively despite the lack of playing time.
Despite starting strongly Crawley fell 1-0 down when the opposing team scored from open play.
The response was almost immediate when Mel Hopkins played a lovely through ball into the D for Corinna Luxford (Capt) to slot home the equaliser, this was repeated 10 minutes later with the two combining for Corinna's second from open play.
The second half continued with Crawley starting to dominate the midfield, in quick succession Alice Ramsden scored twice (her first two goals for Crawley) both from short corners before Burgess hill scored their second goal.
8 minutes from time Mel Hopkins scored her first goal of the season from a very well worked short corner completing a deserved victory .
Congratulations must also go to Jean Wright for Player of the Match, when playing in only her 4th first team game.
